Golf club raises £5000 for Motor Neurone Disease Association

April 20, 2022

The Oak’s Golf Club are celebrating a year of hosting fun-filled fundraising events which supported a cause close to the club’s heart.

Inspired by former professional rugby league player, Rob Burrow MBE’s fight against motor neurone disease, club captain Michael Clark and Lady Captain Sue Randall raised £5000 in 2021 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Various events were held during the year, which a included a golf tournament involving thirty six holes a day for seven days.

This culminated in the Captain’s Finale which was attended by Rob’s Mum, sisters and cousin. The club are keen rugby league fans and were moved by the story of Rob, his family and the challenges completed by Leicester Tigers coach, Kevin Sinfield. The Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association focuses on improving access to care and research. They are instrumental in campaigning for those living with or affected by the disease in the UK.

A spokesperson for the club said: “To have raised this amount of money has made us very proud of The Oaks Golf Club members and we can’t thank them enough for their generosity.” Denise Davies, head of community fundraising at the MND Association added: “Without the amazing support of people like Michael and Sue, the MND Association simply would not be able to provide its vital support services, fund research to find a cure and campaign and raise awareness of MND. “Together we are making a real difference for people affected by this devastating disease.” For more information about MND and the MND Association please visit www.mndassociation.org.
